yes - I am opposed to all forms of state surveillance on communities and individuals

The right of parents to remain with their children in hospital has been established for over forty years. How would you ensure carers of people with dementia are equally welcome in hospital?

Carers should have equal rights

Should people in Scotland and Northern Ireland have the same free speech protections from libel bullies as their neighbours in England and Wales?

Recent polling show that people support rent control by a margin of nine to one. Do you support a rent control that limits rent rises between tenancies as well as during tenancies?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes. We think it is a disgrace private landlords can increase rents on a whim pricing families out of their homes and communities. Strict rent controls would help to control this. One of our key election pledges is "affordable housing for all - cap rents not benefits".

The standards of goods and services that are essential, such as food and water, are generally highly regulated. Do you support enforced minimum standards in housing as a precondition of a renting?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes - the lowering of standards is part of the way in which private companies seek to squeeze ever more profit form housing.

Britain spends £24 billion on housing benefit and less than £1.5 billion on building homes. Do you support an increase in the social housebuilding grant to £5 billion a year to build homes?

organisation: Generation Rent

We support a rent cap. This should be set a price ordinary workers can afford. We believe the high levels of housing benefit has been caused with buy-to-let schemes and has only benefited private landlords.

We need new homes, we believe that the best way to satisfy this would be to build local authority council housing. What remains of our public housing stock was built for occupation in previous generations and doesn't always suit the needs of changing communities and families. We need well insulated housing to help combat climate change and keep heating bills affordable.

Governments implement policies that directly and indirectly impact on house prices. Do you think house prices are too high?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes - when a couple both working on an average wage in Glasgow North have little hope of saving for a deposit or getting a Mortgage for a normal sized family home there is a huge problem with the system. The sell-off of public housing has mainly benefited private landlords and pushed up rents for ordinary people. Many MPs are private landlords themselves. We oppose the sell-off of public housing and demand that the Government build good quality well insulated council housing with 100% subsidy.

Private sector landlords receive over £27bn a year in housing benefit and tax breaks. Would you support a rent tax that recouped up to a third of this to fund new housing supply?

Would you support the creation of a Royal Commission to review Britain’s drug laws?

organisation: CISTA

Yes. We believe drug use should not be a criminal offence but treated as a health issue. Families and communities affected by drug and alcohol abuse need help, not criminalisation.
