The right of parents to remain with their children in hospital has been established for over forty years. How would you ensure carers of people with dementia are equally welcome in hospital?

organisation: John's Campaign

I look after my Mum, and this is very important for me. Providing rooms for carers to stay in hospital may well mean that elderly residents with dementia can get home quicker. My mum was in hospital last year. The medical care was great, the care to the women on her ward was poor with little or no stimulation.

Private sector landlords receive over £27bn a year in housing benefit and tax breaks. Would you support a rent tax that recouped up to a third of this to fund new housing supply?

organisation: Generation Rent

I'd need to know more about this. I would remove the ability of landlords to offset mortgage interest against rent on income tax returns as this subsidies buy to let from taxation.

Governments implement policies that directly and indirectly impact on house prices. Do you think house prices are too high?

organisation: Generation Rent

Building more homes should reduce supply, having laws against keeping homes empty might also help especially in London, but the best system that I have heard of is the Rent to Buy scheme proposed by the Lib Dems. It seems to me that this gives a way out for many families.

Britain spends £24 billion on housing benefit and less than £1.5 billion on building homes. Do you support an increase in the social housebuilding grant to £5 billion a year to build homes?

organisation: Generation Rent

Across Europe governments take the view that borrowing money to build extra social housing does not appear on the government balance sheets as the rents pay for this. I managed to persuade the Government to increase funding last year by £300m but councils should be able to borrow to build with no restriction

Should people in Scotland and Northern Ireland have the same free speech protections from libel bullies as their neighbours in England and Wales?

organisation: English PEN

I would support this, but if this is something that has been devolved then as a believer in localism of decision making they have the right to make the wrong decisions.

To what degree should access to information on the internet be restricted by the state or private companies?

organisation: Open Rights Group (ORG)

Only if it places people - especial children - at risk. The basic principle is that the internet should be free except where it could cause harm. I'm pleased that as a Lib Dem we stopped the Government trying to snoop on our emails.

Would you support the creation of a Royal Commission to review Britain’s drug laws?

organisation: CISTA

The standards of goods and services that are essential, such as food and water, are generally highly regulated. Do you support enforced minimum standards in housing as a precondition of a renting?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes. In Portsmouth the Lib Dem team I led running the council brought in a licensing regime of houses with 3 or more unrelated adults in the same house as HMO's often house the most vulnerable people with some of the worst landlords, and this provides extra regulation of this market

How would you reform surveillance law, oversight and practice to respect the rights of law-abiding people?

organisation: Open Rights Group (ORG)

The pressure from Conservatives to increase surveillance is worrying. We need to make sure that we are all kept safe, but this has got to be be balanced with the rights of UK residents not to be spyed on by the Government

Recent polling show that people support rent control by a margin of nine to one. Do you support a rent control that limits rent rises between tenancies as well as during tenancies?

organisation: Generation Rent

This does need looking at. The response to the recent announcement shows that there is a demand for rent control but also the scheme needs to be thought through to make sure it really works
