Governments implement policies that directly and indirectly impact on house prices. Do you think house prices are too high?

organisation: Generation Rent

House price inflation has been seen as a 'good thing' and a vote winner by succesive UK governemnts since the second world war. Cynical policies such as 'help to buy' introduced by this governemnt have unfortunately been supported by Labour. TUSC wants an end to these polices. What makes this more disaterous is that home ownership has become unaffordable at a time when the construction of social rented housing has ground to a near halt and there are minimal rights for tenants in the private rented sector. We call for a massive programme of building good quality council homes. Unfortunately while all the big parties remain commited to austerity they cannot even pledge to reverse the catastrophic cuts to social housing budgets introduced by this government.

Would you support the creation of a Royal Commission to review Britain’s drug laws?

organisation: CISTA

UK drug laws have been surrounded by much hypocrisy on the part of the establishment. A root and branch review drwing on a wide range of sources for evidence could be extremly beneficial

Private sector landlords receive over £27bn a year in housing benefit and tax breaks. Would you support a rent tax that recouped up to a third of this to fund new housing supply?

organisation: Generation Rent

Ye we would support such a tax - along with genuine rent control.

Britain spends £24 billion on housing benefit and less than £1.5 billion on building homes. Do you support an increase in the social housebuilding grant to £5 billion a year to build homes?

organisation: Generation Rent

This question is bound up with the austerity consensus supported by all the big parties. We are commited to break with this consensus; we would certainly supprt £5 billion per year for social house building but we believe even this figure is inadequate.

The standards of goods and services that are essential, such as food and water, are generally highly regulated. Do you support enforced minimum standards in housing as a precondition of a renting?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes we support a fully regulated rented sector

Recent polling show that people support rent control by a margin of nine to one. Do you support a rent control that limits rent rises between tenancies as well as during tenancies?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes we stronly support genuine rent control
