How would you reform surveillance law, oversight and practice to respect the rights of law-abiding people?

organisation: Open Rights Group (ORG)

The Liberal Democrats have set out plans for a new Digital Bill of Rights and an additional Freedoms Bill which enshrines these rights

The right of parents to remain with their children in hospital has been established for over forty years. How would you ensure carers of people with dementia are equally welcome in hospital?

organisation: John's Campaign

I support this proposal. As someone who has a child with a serious condition, and who has spent literally months 'living' in hospital, I understand just how important this right is. I agree it should be extended to carers of people with dementia.

Should people in Scotland and Northern Ireland have the same free speech protections from libel bullies as their neighbours in England and Wales?

organisation: English PEN

Absolutely. The current discrepancies are arbitrary and unfair.

The standards of goods and services that are essential, such as food and water, are generally highly regulated. Do you support enforced minimum standards in housing as a precondition of a renting?

organisation: Generation Rent

Liberal Democrats have acted to support tenants against landlord victimisation, for example by banning 'revenge' evictions against tenants who complain of conditions. It is right and proper that tenants should have the right to decent housing.

Britain spends £24 billion on housing benefit and less than £1.5 billion on building homes. Do you support an increase in the social housebuilding grant to £5 billion a year to build homes?

organisation: Generation Rent

To what degree should access to information on the internet be restricted by the state or private companies?

organisation: Open Rights Group (ORG)

I believe there should stricter controls on access to private data by government agencies and corporations

Governments implement policies that directly and indirectly impact on house prices. Do you think house prices are too high?

organisation: Generation Rent

House prices are way too high. The shortage of new homes because of the lack of housebuilding by previous governments is one of the main factors in this. Liberal Democrats have kickstarted the building of affordable homes to 150,000 a year, with plans to grow this to 300,000. The Help to Buy equity loans have helped many young families onto the property ladder for the first time. In the next parliament, we want to bring in a rent to buy scheme, and also a deposit loan for tenants.

Would you support the creation of a Royal Commission to review Britain’s drug laws?

organisation: CISTA

Absolutely. In Portugal, the switch to treatment for people with drug addictions has directly helped addicts and has not led to any increase in drug use. It will also have led to a decline in drugs-related offences.
