Should people in Scotland and Northern Ireland have the same free speech protections from libel bullies as their neighbours in England and Wales?

organisation: English PEN

Yes!

The standards of goods and services that are essential, such as food and water, are generally highly regulated. Do you support enforced minimum standards in housing as a precondition of a renting?

organisation: Generation Rent

Yes, minimum standards are important to the welfare of all.

To what degree should access to information on the internet be restricted by the state or private companies?

organisation: Open Rights Group (ORG)

The internet should always be open and have unrestricted access to information with no state interference or private company interference. This need not contradict laws to protect citizens from the use of any medium for child abuse or criminal activities.

How would you reform surveillance law, oversight and practice to respect the rights of law-abiding people?

organisation: Open Rights Group (ORG)

Most of the problems around surveillance of law-abiding people is a result of government bodies operating outside of laws or abusing proper protocol. This should be enforced. Surveillance of certain professions such as finacial trading, broking, advising, is necessary to close down on malpractice. The recent LIBOR scandle was discovered using email surveillance.

The right of parents to remain with their children in hospital has been established for over forty years. How would you ensure carers of people with dementia are equally welcome in hospital?

organisation: John's Campaign

I fully agree with the principle. An Independently drated code of conduct should be applied to all National Health Trusts.

Recent polling show that people support rent control by a margin of nine to one. Do you support a rent control that limits rent rises between tenancies as well as during tenancies?

organisation: Generation Rent

If rental is to be encouraged in the private sector, it would not be ayttractive to business if rent control is imposed between tenancies. Instead the supply of rental accomodation in public and private sector must be increased to drive rental prices down

Britain spends £24 billion on housing benefit and less than £1.5 billion on building homes. Do you support an increase in the social housebuilding grant to £5 billion a year to build homes?

organisation: Generation Rent

I totally agree with increasing the supply of good quality social housing to drive down rents and therefore drive down the housing benefits required

Governments implement policies that directly and indirectly impact on house prices. Do you think house prices are too high?

organisation: Generation Rent

Housing pricing is far too high. Government must proactively drive up the supply to enable market forces to drive down the cost. The governement must invest in infrastructure and training in construction. Land and zones targeted for building and Brown field sites and/or with outline planning permission must be used. If companies are holding this supply to drive up pricing then it is reasonable to charge a Land Tax to motivate them to use it for building

Private sector landlords receive over £27bn a year in housing benefit and tax breaks. Would you support a rent tax that recouped up to a third of this to fund new housing supply?

organisation: Generation Rent

No. This will drive out landlords from the poorer areas of the country where rental income to loan margin is small. It would drive down supply. Initiatives to drive up supply is the strategic answer

Would you support the creation of a Royal Commission to review Britain’s drug laws?

organisation: CISTA

Yes. Drug laws need constant review to avoid enneccesary forcing underground to feed criminal gangs
